Isagenix Spiced Apple Protein Pancakes

Is the following statement true or false?

Pancakes and body transformation don't go together.

I am sure you guessed FALSE since the title of this blog made the answer pretty obvious.  Now when Saturday morning arrives and the family screams for flap jacks, you don't have to choose between body transformation and being included in family fun.  You can do BOTH!

Enjoy this simple and tasty recipe to give yourself a weekend break from your normal nutrition routine without wrecking your waistline or temporarily damaging your digestive system (come on you know the carb induced "food babies" aren't good for you... don't pretend to be shocked).

Isagenix Spiced Apple Protein Pancakes

Pancake Ingredients:
2 egg whites
1 scoop IsaPro (GET YOURS HERE>>>http://fitclub.isagenix.com/us/en/isapro.dhtml)
1 tablespoon of unsweetened apple sauce
1/2-1 tbsp water
1 tsp baking powder
cinnamon to taste

Mix all ingredients together with a whisker in a shallow bowl.  If the batter is too thick, GRADUALLY add more water until it can be poured but is not runny.  Smooth some coconut oil or butter on your pan or griddle.  DON'T GO CRAZY with the oil or butter... just coat the cooking surface. Put two tablespoons in at a time to make cute little pancakes.Flip. Serve warm.

Topping Ingredients:
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
whipped cream (optional)

Warm the apple sauce up in the microwave for about 15-30 seconds.  Place on top of the hot pancakes and top with a squirt of whipped cream.

These are DELICIOUS and leave you feeling like you had a tasty weekend cheat!

25 Ways to Entertain Yourself During An Ice Storm Without Eating Cookies

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you discover that you are stuck in the house for the day?  If you grew up the way I did, you probably think of heading to the kitchen to break out the flour, butter, and sugar to get busy baking cookies.  At the very least, you consider breaking out the hot cocoa mix and marshmallows to warm up from the inside out while you cue your favorite movie or mini-series on Netflix.  Sugar, warm drinks, and movies can definitely entertain you and make the time inside fly by AND make it that much harder to fit into your holiday party clothes and do your push ups and pull ups the next time you hit the gym.  Seriously an additional 2 pounds of weight feels like 20 when it is time to push yourself up or pull yourself above an overhead bar (ask me how I know). So because I care that you can fit the clothes in your closet and rock your training sessions, I am sharing 25 ways to entertain yourself other than the old, ingrained, and anti-body transformation habits that you may have.  For the sake of transparency, I have to admit that the first thing I thought of doing this morning was baking cookies so I am not judging you if that was your first thought.  I am just giving you some alternatives for the second thought (and hopefully the one you will act upon).  Pick the ones that resonate and leave the ones that don’t.

1.       Scrapbook.
2.       Camp out with the family… INSIDE! (Tents, Fireplaces, and Stories)
3.       Finish a craft project.
4.       Plan a Girl’s Night Out (for after the storm of course).
5.       Research cool vacations spots for next year.
6.       Learn a new skill (hello YouTube).
7.       Try out a new healthy recipe.
8.       Call a friend.
9.       Read a book. (“Before Happiness” by Shawn Achor)
10.   Organize your dresser drawers.
11.   Do laundry.
12.   Balance your check book.
13.   File that stack of paper on the counter.
14.   Organize your music collection.
15.   Organize your digital photos.
16.   Organize the files on your computer.
17.   Go sledding down the street.
18.   Write out Christmas cards.
19.   Organize your closet.
20.   Clean out that “junk drawer”.
21.   Give yourself a manicure/pedicure.
22.   Deep condition your hair.
23.   Look at old photos.
24.   Watch old home movies.
25.   WORK OUT! (Try this one: Conditioning Workout With Concita)

The Most Underutilized Body Transformation Tool

Mental Toughness for Body Transformation

Your lungs are burning.  Your legs feel like lead.  Sweat is burning your eyes.  You are hot, it is hard to breathe, and everything in you is screaming at you to stop.  At that moment, your coach screams, “Ten seconds left- PUSH HARDER”.  You have a choice to make- to push or to give up.  What you choose in that moment will have effects that reach far beyond that moment in time so it is important that you learn to choose well in these moments.  Learning to push when you would rather quit helps you to develop the most underutilized body transformation tool that exists- mental toughness.

Getting fit is a mental game.  Almost everyone knows it but very few actively seek to engage in that game to ensure success with body transformation and life.   The level of mental toughness an individual has determines whether they will fall into the category of those who simply know what to do yet remain unsuccessful in following through to reach their goals OR those who do what it takes to make their dreams reality in what may appear to be an effortless manner.  The truth is that those who finish and succeed at body transformation work just as hard as those who don’t- the appearance of ease only comes from the fact that they have decided that they must finish and have totally abandoned the option of quitting.   So now that you know that getting mentally tough is required for your body transformation journey, here are three ways to get started on your journey to mental toughness.

#1: Start DOING.
The first part of cultivating mental toughness is showing up.  Once you learn what you need to do- do it. Show up for your workouts. Go grocery shopping.  Cook your food.  Do what it takes to give yourself a chance to succeed. Knowing what to do without doing it is worse than not knowing because you always have the annoying voice in the back of your head saying, “but you know what to do, just do it.”  Take action and silence that voice.

#2: Develop the habit of finishing.
In order to transform your body, you will need to continue to exercise, eat well, and get rest even when life happens.  Even when you need to work late, the children get ill, or your car breaks down, there is still a way to take the daily actions required to succeed.  You just need to get very good at finding and then taking advantage of that alternate route to your goal.  Setting small challenges is an awesome way to develop the habit of finishing.   Give up sugar for 5 days.  Commit to working out for 10 days straight.  Pick a challenge and then pick another when that one is complete.  You will develop the winning habit of finishing what you begin.

#3: Keep challenging yourself.
You will not get mentally tough from continuously doing what you already know you can do.  Expose yourself to new PHYSICAL challenges constantly.  Try the harder variation of an exercise in training.  Learn a new physical skill.  Commit to doing something that scares you (something legal of course).  Sticking with the safe, expected, and familiar is a huge hindrance to developing mental toughness.  Embrace the unknown and unexpected.

#4:  Learn and respect the difference between pain and discomfort and injury.
Pain and discomfort are both temporary and getting used to enduring both will help you follow through and finish.  Injury on the other hand (like a muscle tear, broken bones, etc.) is not helpful and should be avoided.

#5: Spend time with mentally tough people.
You take on characteristics of those you spend the most time with.  If your friends are more likely to say, “I don’t know why you tried to get up that early to work out anyway” rather than, “Just set a second alarm.  You can do it.” – You are hanging with the wrong crowd.  Find people who challenge you and spend time around them.  When you are stronger, you can strengthen others so don’t feel guilty about spending less time with those that don’t challenge you and enable you to remain weak.

The formula for mental toughness is simple- show up, don’t stop, do something harder, REPEAT.  Even though the formula is simple, the never ending journey is often times difficult.  When you feel like giving up, revisit your motivation.  Remember why you embarked upon this journey in the first place.  Think of all of the positive benefits you will enjoy as a result of following through then dig in and keep going.
