Boot Camp Transformation - Mother of Six Banishes Her Muffin Top in Six Weeks

Mother of Six Lose 1/2 Inch Off Her Belly Every Week with Boot Camp Challenge

Time to be inspired. Check out this amazing SIX WEEK BOOT CAMP TRANSFORMATION.

Julie Egan, mother of 6, loses over 3 inches off her belly measurement in just six short weeks with the Great Shape Fit Club Challenge and shares with you below just how she did it. BE INSPIRED!

Julie's Interview

What brought you to boot camp? What was your main motivation for joining?
I found Concita's boot camp through an online Groupon deal. I had been wanting to start exercising for several months (since my 40th birthday) and the Groupon seemed like a good way to get started.

What did you expect from boot camp when you joined?
I expected to get a good workout two days a week, but was so happy with how GREAT of a workout it was. I had no idea I would also receive nutrition counseling.

How did you feel after your first workout?
I could definitely tell that I'd had a workout! My muscles hurt, but the hurt let me know that I was working parts of my body that hadn't worked out for a long time!

What kind of nutrition recommendations and help did you receive?
I loved the one-on-one coaching call with Concita. She was able to look at my food diary and give me specific guidelines tailored just for me and my lifestyle and goals. She outlined a very specific eating plan and gave me the encouragement I needed to stick with it.

What was the nutrition program like? How did you eat?
The first two weeks of my specific nutrition plan were very strict... only green vegetables and proteins. After that I was able to slowly add in other vegetables and gradually add back in fruits and some healthy grains. I have found that I don't miss my carb-heavy eating that I previously had and crave the fresh produce.

What was the most challenging part of the program?
Changing my diet was definitely the most challenging part of the program. I NEVER thought I could make such drastic changes and stick with it.

What kind of support system did you have?
Concita was great to check in with me about my progress, both at class and through emails and phone calls. She was very honest about how hard it would be to make changes, but also very encouraging that I could do it!

What is a typical day like for you?
I am a stay-at-home mom of six kids, ages 5 - 17. The kids are all in school and my days are spent keeping up with the dynamics of running a busy household.

What tips could you give someone about making time for fitness?
Concita let me know that getting out of shape is easy and getting in shape is hard. She was honest with me that I would need to put in some hard work to get my body where I want it. You need to have a set routine for exercise and eating - when things are planned out they are so much easier to stick to. Find a time that works into your schedule - even if it means getting up at 5:00 a.m.

What changes in habits are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my new eating lifestyle and how "clean" my body feels now that I'm eating so healthy. The healthy eating combined with exercise has helped see some great results already.

What were your results like?
The boot camp workouts, combined with healthy eating and cardio workouts helped me lose 15 pounds and three inches off my waistline in less than 2 months! I've already dropped a jean size and can wear shirts that are more form-fitting now that I don't have my "muffin-top" anymore!

What aesthetic change are you most proud of?
My new waistline! Can't wait to see how much more I can lose!!

Boot Camp Body Transformation Behind the Scenes

I apologize for the late post. I wanted to be sure to share Jaime's last entry from her series where she takes you behind the scenes of her body transformation. She has since shrunk even more, not to mention how strong and fit she is, through her continued participation in boot camp and Jean Drop Challenge. She recently placed in the top three of our last transformation challenge. My bet is she has her eye on that $500 prize for our upcoming challenge too. Congrats Jaime! We are proud of you!

Jaime's Week 6 Journal Entry

Week 6 already…it never ceases to amaze me how fast time flies. This has been an empowering week for me. Since my goal jeans are now wearable I tore apart my closet looking for smaller jeans. I came across a bin buried in the back corner labeled “Jaime’s Hopefuls”. I pulled it out and went for a wild ride down memory lane. These clothes haven’t seen the light of day since my early college years. I wish I could say I tried everything on and it all fit; it didn’t. But here’s the surprising part, a lot of them, especially the tops, were not that far off from fitting. A little more work and keeping up with what I’m already doing and I will actually be able to wear these things! Watching the numbers on a scale drop can be a lot like watching paint dry, so it is especially rewarding when you discover progress in other ways. At least the numbers are dropping, I’ve hit a weight I haven’t seen since before my last pregnancy and that feels so good.

On Tuesday evenings after my JDC workout I come home and tuck my older daughter into bed. She always asks the same thing “How was your workout, Mommy? What moves did you do?” She listens intently as I tell her about how we used a fire hose or were flipping a tire back and forth across the floor. She participated in a soccer camp this week and the coach had the kids running drills through a ladder. When I told her that sometimes I have to do that at my workouts she said “wow, soccer must really be a lot of hard work!” because she knows how challenging my workouts are. Later we did some stretching together and she was so excited when I let her use my foam roll. I am proud that I am able to teach my children about being healthy by example. I am walking the walk.

So even though these six weeks are coming to an end, my journey is not. My husband and I were having a conversation about things we’d like to do “someday”. I have always really wanted to go to Hawaii; so I threw it out there. “If I get down to my goal and am looking fine, will you take me to Hawaii?” He said if I can keep this up that “yes” he will take me to Hawaii. Here it is in writing and I’m going to hold him to his word. I have signed up for 2 more JDC sessions so next time you see me say “Aloha!”

Boot Camp Transformation - Behind the Scenes with Jaime Fechter

Jaime's Week 4 Recap- The Going Got Tough!!

Week 4 of the JDC proved to be a difficult one. Thus far I think I have done fairly well following the nutrition plan. Friday night my husband and I had a well-deserved, long overdue date night. We went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Up until then anytime I had gone out (which truthfully, doesn’t happen often) I had strategically planned out where I would go and what I would order ahead of time. But Friday was a busy day and it was hard enough just getting out the door, so we showed up to the restaurant and I was not prepared. There were definitely some healthy options, but I couldn’t resist, I caved. I ordered one of my favorite pasta dishes that is covered in a delicious cream sauce and cheese. I also ate the bread, it was so good. After the first few bites though, I started to get really mad at myself. All this hard work I’ve been putting in and I’m going to un-do it with one meal, in less than an hour??? So I ate a small portion and then pushed the plate away. Next time I will be stronger and more prepared!

Tuesday morning I slept through my boot camp workout. I have no excuse, just slept right through the alarm. So I was glad that I still had the JDC workout that evening. When I got Concita’s email canceling our JDC workout due to the extreme heat, I was really disappointed. I am a little embarrassed to admit this, but the old me would have jumped for joy to have a workout cancelled. In these past few weeks I have really come to enjoy working out. Of course I didn’t have to be disappointed for long; Concita provided us a killer workout to do at home.

These changes that I’ve been making are really starting to take hold and I will continue to do my best to embrace this new lifestyle.

Jaime's Recap of Her Experience at the End of Week 3 of the Jean Drop Challenge

So here we are wrapping up the first half of the Jean Drop Challenge already. While it has definitely been intense (my shins still ache from Saturday’s hill sprints) it has not been as hard as I expected it to be.

I am finding the nutrition plan to be completely do-able. I am eating more food than I used to and the quality of what I’m eating has definitely improved. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s easy. Friday I would have given my left arm for something either greasy or chocolaty, but I fought through the cravings and didn’t give in. Saturday morning when I tried on my goal jeans and they fit, comfortably fit, I knew that my results were worth the fight. Seeing consistent progress is a huge motivator.

Another tool that has proved invaluable is the food journal. I was leery about keeping this at first, frankly it just sounded like an awful lot of work. Besides, I had tried it before and it never worked. But, I had never before had to actually turn them in for someone else to review and provide feedback. This is key. It makes me think twice before actually putting something in my mouth. Do I REALLY want to write “one handful of potato chips” or “the leftover half of my daughter’s unfinished cookie”??? I don’t think so…I’ll have an apple and some yogurt instead! Not to mention the feedback that is given is truly helpful.

The 4 Factor Program for Successful Body Transformation

The Ideal Body Transformation Program - 4 Critical Components

If you are a woman itching to get into your skinny jeans, tanks and tees, or even a bikini but unwanted fat is standing in your way, it’s time you discover how to build or recognize the ideal body transformation program that will help you drop fat fast.

The first factor in building or identifying your ideal program is enjoyment. You must enjoy your program on some level to ensure that you will stick with it long enough to reap results. Also your schedule and lifestyle are extremely important. Consider the amount of time you have to exercise and type of equipment you have access to in order to determine which workout program is right for you. If you find your program enjoyable and you have the time it takes to complete the fat burning, body sculpting workouts in your fat loss program, you are on the road to success.

There are 3 other components that any fat loss program must have to maximize your fitness results: resistance training, cardiovascular conditioning, and flexibility / relaxation exercises.

Resistance training builds strong muscles and bones. Why should you want to build muscle if your overall goal is to drop fat? Building muscle will help will increase your metabolism (the amount of calories your burn each day) - making sustained fast fat loss a true possibility for you. An increased metabolism will help you burn more calories when you are not exercising (for instance while you are reading this article) and help you to banish unwanted fat in record time. You don’t have to build big, bulky muscles to enjoy the extra fat loss results. Simply exercising to maintain and slightly enhance the muscle you already have will be enough to accelerate your fat loss. Resistance training includes exercises like squats, lunges, push ups, pull ups, and planks. It is important that you use enough resistance to challenge your muscles. Using super light weights and tons of repetitions will not optimize your fat loss or increase muscle tone. It is ideal to resistance train three times per week (you can start with twice per week if you are a novice) and to allow at least 24 hours of recovery between sessions training the same muscles.

Cardiovascular conditioning (such as running, swimming, biking, or aerobics) is ideal for strengthening your heart and lungs and the prevention and management of many lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Since losing fat and getting into better overall shape is your goal, do interval cardio 2-3 times per week. Interval training is done by intermixing bouts of hard work with bouts of relatively easy, "recovery" work. An example would be to run or jog for 1 minute then immediately walk for 2 minutes and repeat. Interval training causes your body to continue to burn calories even after your exercise session at a much higher rate than traditional steady state cardio such as going for a walk would. This increased post exercise calorie burn is guaranteed to accelerate your fat loss results and help you banish belly fat fast.

Flexibility exercise (such as stretching and foam rolling) helps maintain normal movement patterns and reduce risk for injury. It is ideal to stretch the muscles groups worked after each session and to pay close attention to muscle groups that are very tight. Muscles that are tight do not contract optimally and thereby rob you of some of your fat burning potential when you exercise. Relaxation exercise (such as restorative yoga or meditation) can increase calm and awareness which helps to regulate and balance fat burning hormones and to create a healthier, happier you.

But can't I just walk or do cardio to lose weight and then start all of the other components? You have many options in how you approach your program but the goal of this article is to help you identify the ideal approach. Doing hours of cardio while neglecting strength training will inevitably set you up for a few undesirable results which include: creating a smaller, "squishy" version of the body you have now, decreasing your metabolism by burning up precious muscle tissue (this makes keeping the weight off or continuing to lose weight harder), or causing overuse injuries by doing high repetitions of the same movements (i.e. hours on the elliptical or treadmill) without strengthing the muscles, ligaments, and tendons that are involved. Now that you know what is ideal, don't settle for less. Search for fun methods of getting your strength, interval, and flexibility training done and enjoy the journey.

Gail Prince's Challenge Photos & Essay

Before Front / After Front / Before Side / After Side

The biggest obstacle that I had to overcome was to find time for me.
This included prepping my meals and exercising. My proudest moment
was when my entire family decided to participate with me; my husband
cooking the chicken and turkey and my daughter helping to assemble
meals. Having all those gladware meals ready to go in my refrigerator
made all the difference. This challenge was not just about me but the
ones I love as well. I had challenges during this period that I had
to face. I was not always compliant but learned to forgive myself at
that time and continue on the path of what I knew I needed to do.
This is an area of growth for me. I usually “mess up” and decide to
throw in the towel. This time I immediately would turn around and get
back with the game plan whether it was nutrition or exercise. The
accountability factor helps with adherence to the challenge. We all
need someone to lean on. I encourage others to take the challenge and
to remember all things are possible. If you fall, get back up
immediately, forgive yourself and just do what you need to do.

Nicole Edwards' Challenge Photos & Essay

Before Front / After Front / Before Side / After Side

Taking the Transformation Challenge this time around was really not on
my agenda. I figured I would just continue to come to my boot camp
session once a week and try to comply with the nutrition to look like
I'd half way been under the guidance of a trainer. But after a nice
consultation with Concita and understanding why I really got serious
about fitness again in the first place (my father suffering from two
strokes around Thanksgiving 2009), I found that a three-week "get
serious" interval of training wouldn't be so bad. I've found that
veggies and water are my true friend. My appetite has changed once
again, for the better. And planning splurges is neither foreign,
foolish nor prudish. I am more disciplined, stronger, more flexible
and that much finer (I've got a few lines in my ab area I know I
didn't have before). Of course, my biggest challenge during this
challenge has been me, but I think with everything else that is going
on in my life right now (or not going for that matter) that I am a
better me and will be participating in another one to get even
better.

Adrian Beekie's Challenge Photos & Essay

Before Front / After Front / Before Side / After Side

What obstacles did you overcome to stick to the challenge and finish?
My biggest obstacles are my addition to flavored chips/crackers and my relationship with food. I have a mindset that if I could live without eating I'd do it. I do not find comfort in food, but I do like to snack. I'm not a stranger to preparing food for the week, but I have been known to throw away food I've prepared either because I'm bored with it or just rather eat chips.

What was your proudest moment(s) during the challenge?
Being able to hold planks, do squats with ease and do military pushups.

What was your lowest point during the challenge that could have caused you to quit?
Being the complusive weigher that I am...not seeing the numbers drop and even increase at times made me want to throw in the towel.

How did you overcome that low point to keep going?
Remind myself that Concita said she was once a tight 16 (like me) and now that chic don't look like she has a one year old child. LOL! So the program must work, plus i need to have the greatest transformation cause i can use that money.

How did you fit in your workout homework during the holiday season? What strategies did you use?
Have to get that done in the AM or it won't get done. Eliptical: 30 minutes on easy pace or 2.5 miles in 20 mins. goal, hit that Biggest Loser DVD, a Taebo DVD or that 500 calorie burn DVD. Have to do any and all workouts before my son wakes OR make it a game/challenge with him (get him to workout with me). He's very much a momma's boy. :-)

Were there any mental barriers that you had previously that you shattered during the challenge?
Thinking/adopting I don't have time nor the energy to workout 6 times a week.

Did you have any slip ups on the challenge with nutrition or workouts?
Yes but we're allowed 4 splurges so I stayed with in those 4. The program is little more lenient than I'm use to and I don't always have strong control after I get started on the foods that have helped me maintain the extra baggage I carry so I try hard to avoid temptations complete.

How did you recover?
FOAM ROLL!!!! That foam roller is my BFF. I take Aleve whenever the aches reach my feet and I soak in the tub.

What was the biggest contributing factor to your success?
I have this issue with weight versus inches so as of now I do not feel I have really succeeded in reaching my short term goal since my clothes do not fit looser and the scale number is not dropping.

What "driving elements" did you leverage to ensure your success besides entering the challenge?
I feel my driving element are my aches and pains (i attribute them to my size) and my desire to be back in a Wal-mart 12 (which is probably a 10 elsewhere)

How did the extra accountability of participating in the challenge affect your adherence?
It help me stay on top of my workouts and nutrition. I do feel the program could be stricter (like make the score card required) and the workouts harder (like that 6/21 4 min tabata routine), but that's just me :-)

I notice I excel on strict programs and not so great with lenient programs.

What would you say to another busy woman who doesn't think achieving her dream body is possible with nutrition and exercise?
Talk to Concita!! "That chic don't look like she has a one year old child."
